On Thursday, February 12, the George & Barbara Bush Foundation hosted its annual Presidential Salute, welcoming friends and supporters for an evening honoring the enduring legacies of President and Mrs. Bush. Held in the days leading up to Presidents’ Day, the event celebrated President George H.W. Bush’s lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and humility — values that continue to inspire future generations.
The evening was hosted by Anthony Yanez of KPRC2, who guided the program with warmth and enthusiasm. Guests were first welcomed with inspiring remarks from CEO Alice Gonzalez Yates, followed by a stirring patriotic performance by the Houston Christian High School Choir, setting a meaningful tone for the night.
A highlight of the evening was a featured conversation between President and Mrs. Bush’s grandson, Sam Bush LeBlond, and legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K), former head coach of the Duke University men's basketball program. The discussion reflected on President Bush’s remarkable character, his quiet strength and civility, and the shared commitment both men hold toward cancer advocacy. Coach K spoke about leadership, teamwork, and humor — drawing powerful parallels between lessons learned on the court and the example set by President Bush throughout his life of service.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a multi-course exquisite meal and spirited bidding — all in support of the Foundation’s mission. The evening ended on a high note with a live auction, led by renowned Houston auctioneer Johnny “Bravo” Holloway, whose rapid-fire delivery energized the crowd. Featured auction items included:
- A Presidential State Dinner at the Bush Family Apartment in College Station, TX
- A trip to Kennebunkport, Maine to attend the Bush Family Golf Classic
- A once-in-a-lifetime trip to attend a Duke University basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium with a special opportunity to tour Coach K’s office and attend the post-game press conference, complete with a signed basketball and hat from Coach K
Proceeds from the 2026 Presidential Salute support the work of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and high-impact graduate and undergraduate programming at The Bush School of Government & Public Service. The evening also highlighted the Foundation’s newest initiative, the Barbara Bush Fund for Family Literacy, continuing Mrs. Bush’s lifelong dedication to strengthening families through literacy.
We are especially grateful to our Co-Chairs, Honorary Co-Chairs, Host Committee members, table sponsors, and auction donors — many of whom have been steadfast friends of the Bush family for decades.
The 2026 Presidential Salute was a meaningful tribute to a legacy defined by service, integrity, and love of country — and a reminder that President and Mrs. Bush’s example continues to guide and inspire us all.
